Ye Matthew Legacy is an exhibit in the town of Bonavista featuring a replica of John Cabot’s ship, ‘The Matthew’.
A full size replica of the Matthew is on display in a custom built building. It’s not hard to find, it’s a very unique building on the harbour in Bonavista. The ship is seaworthy and has been out in the harbour. It’s a caravel. Cabot ‘discovered’ Newfoundland in 1497 aboard the Matthew. It’s believed that the first land sighted was Bonavista.
You can go onboard and see the captain’s cabin and navigation room. The ship is amazing and fully rigged. Interpreters are also onboard to answer questions. When you leave the ship there’s a nice gift shop and a large deck with great views of the harbour.
