The plane crash site is right in the Town of Conche. Just follow the main road past the French Shore Interpretation Centre into town. The crash site is also where Captain Morrow’s Walk begins. A nice trail up to a ridge with views of Conche and The Grey Islands.
The 1942 Plane Crash Site is located in the Town of Conche. The wreck was a short-range bomber known as a Boston (Douglas DB-7). On November 30, 1942 the plane, piloted by Robert Morrow, took off from Gander, Newfoundland. Morrow was a Canadian. The Boston BZ-277 got into trouble, possibly because it was short of fuel and the crew was uncertain of their position off the coast. The navigator bailed out and was uninjured. Morrow and the radio operator crash-landed the aircraft in Conche, and received minor injuries.
Salvage was carried out of the aircraft by its own crew, the crew of the RCAF coastal ship L.K. Sweeney and some local men. Parts that were not salvaged were left at the wreck site. The wreck of the plane is still in its original place.
