The Newfoundland Insectarium is located on Hwy 430 (Viking Trail), just north of Deer Lake. It is privately owned and run, celebrating 20 years of operation.
This place is truly amazing! Everywhere you turn you are met with beautiful displays and friendly, knowledgeable staff. There are 3 levels. These include a glass beehive, a leaf-cutter ant colony, a theatre showing numerous videos through the day, a kid zone, walking trails and more. Displays include living and mounted specimens from around the world.
The most amazing part is the butterfly house, where up to a 1000 tropical butterflies from the Philippines and Costa Rica fly all around you. The colours and variations are beautiful to see.
You do not have to like bugs to find this a great place to spend hours. If you have kids in tow, they will love this.
