Burnt Islands is a small community between Isle aux Morts and Rose Blanche off Route 470. The first settlers arrived in 1839, living on the mainland. In 1841 settlement on the island started. The fish plant was opened in 1968 on the island and in 1969 a causeway was built connecting the island to the mainland. The community consists of 2 main roads, the first being Main Street and the second being the Causeway which branches off to the right as you head south on Main Street.

Hook and Line Interpretation Centre

Follow Main St. into town and you’ll come to the Hook and Line Interpretation Centre. The centre is on the waterfront in Burnt Islands. You’ll find a museum with many interesting displays about the town’s history and the local fishery.

There’s also a coffee shop at the centre where you can grab a snack or lunch.
