Saint Andrew’s is in the Codroy Valley on Route 407. If you are coming from Port aux Basques on the TCH, turn left at the sign for St. Andrew’s and Tompkins. The road follows the Little Codroy River.
You’ll pass Hynes Chicken Villa on your right. If you are spending a few days in the area, this is a great place to get take-out chicken. Just give them a call about half an hour ahead. They also have a dining area at the restaurant.
At the main intersection in St. Andrew’s, Route 407 turns to the right past Precious Blood R.C. Church. There are several beautiful wooden churches in Newfoundland and Saint Andrew’s has one of the nicest. Route 407 will continue through a dairy farming area towards Codroy Valley Provincial Park.
Go straight through the same intersection and follow the road to the end. You arrive at a grassy area on the coast. You will find a fairly rough gravel road that you can follow out to the mouth of the Little Codroy River. This is a pretty spot, you can see the Wreckhouse area and the TCH across the river. This area can be very windy.
You can tell which part of Newfoundland you are in by the highway (route) numbers. The highest numbers are in the 400’s. All the 400 and above numbers are in Western Newfoundland.
