Red Head Cove is next to
Bay de Verde on Route 70, just before the end of the road in Grate’s Cove. If you’d like to get a look at Baccelieu Island, Red Head Cove is where you want to be.
Baccalieu Island is the largest protected island in Newfoundland and Labrador. It has more types of seabirds than any other location on the island. It’s probably not going to be part of your itinerary, access to nesting areas is restricted to researchers.
The Baccalieu View Walking Trail is on your right at the top of the hill before you drive into town. The trail will give you the best views of the island.
Red Head Cove has quite a few tough old salt box houses perched on the side of the hill above the cove.
