Jackson's Arm

Jackson’s Arm is the end of the road on Route 420. This pretty community is just off White Bay.

The town has two fish plants that have been shut down. There is currently a plan to convert one of them into a hydroponic agriculture and water bottling operation. The plan is to apply for three cannabis-related licenses to grow marijuana plants and manufacture value added products. This will provide an important boost to the local economy.

Jackson’s Arm was where the ferry originated from to go to Great Harbour Deep, further up the Northern Peninsula. This service was shut down in 2002 when Great Harbour Deep was resettled. Some of Great Harbour Deep’s 53 families moved to Jackson’s Arm.

The famous book Will Anyone Search for Danny by Earle Pilgrim was about Newfoundland Ranger Danny Corcoran, who set out on his patrol from Great Harbour Deep.

Driving into town you’ll first come to the old ferry dock, which has a great view of the harbour and the town. St. Bartholomew’s Church is the most prominent building. On the old harbour front, you’ll see two old warehouse buildings, that are still very pretty. Drive around the harbour to the very end of the road and you’ll come to Wick’s Point. It’s a picnic area with a great view of the town and White Bay.
