Steady Brook is on the TCH just 10 km east of Corner Brook. You take exit 8 for Steady Brook. If you are eastbound, you can also pull off at the Tim Horton’s just past exit 8.
Steady Brook is home to the Marble Mountain Ski Resort. They also have zip lines on the mountain which run year round. If you take the road in behind the Horton’s, there is a parking area. From here you can walk up a trail to the spectacular Steady Brook Falls.
From the parking area it’s all uphill to the falls. You walk up a narrow gravel road that the zip line atv’s and vans use. The trail starts at a wooden ramp (pictured above). It’s a good trail with stairs on the steepest parts. You arrive at a large viewing platform with a great view of the falls. You can hike further up the mountain to the zip line platforms, which also give you some nice views.
It’s quite a striking spot. The zip lines crossing the gorge don’t take away from the setting. You’ll have fun watching the adventurous crossing high above the falls.
If you didn’t stop at the Tim’s in Port aux Basques, Steady Brook is your next chance for your double-double and old fashioned plain. The Tim Horton’s is right on the Trans Canada. There’s also a gas station, convenience store, ski shop, souvenir shop and liquor store all at this popular roadside stop.
The town is a pretty bedroom community of Corner Brook. It’s all on the north side of the TCH. Drive into town on Marble Drive. If you turn left on Wilton Street, it takes you down to the town office and a tranquil picnic area. This is a pretty spot where you can see the Humber River.
The fire department has a 1970 Ford F250 in mint condition and still in service. We were lucky enough to see it parked outside on a nice sunny day.
