Stanleyville Trail is within Gros Morne National Park on the south side of East Arm of Bonne Bay. To reach Stanleyville Trail, take the Viking Trail (Route 430) from The Trans Canada Highway at Deer Lake. Turn left onto Highway 431 at Wiltondale. It’s a 20 minute drive from Wiltondale to the Lomond Campground. Enter the campground and go to the end.
The trail is 4 km return. It will take 1-2 hours. You are going from Lomond Cove, at the campground, over a small peninsula to Paynes Cove. Your elevation changes are moderate, most of the trail is fairly level. The trail is well maintained. Trees on the trail were from very recent wind storms and would be removed shortly.
Paynes Cove is the former site of Stanleyville. It was a small logging town that existed in the early 1900’s. Old machinery is still visible and for the gardeners, traditional garden plants still come up every year.
Stanleyville Trail is within 20 minutes of Woody Point, The Gros Morne National Park Interpretation Centre and The Tablelands.
