Dildo is on the Avalon Peninsula, on Trinity Bay. Take Route 80 north from the Trans Canada. You’ll see the sign with an arrow, Dildo is just west of the highway. Dildo is about 100 km from St. John’s.
Dildo’s unusual name has drawn a lot of attention and there has been talk to change it. This appears to be history and now the town is turning the name to its’ advantage. We visited in August and there was lots of visitors.
If you visit during the morning when the recreational cod fishery is on, you’ll see lots of activity. Fisherman often fillet their catch on tables right on the docks.
When you are in town look for Dildo Cove Outdoor Adventure. They rent out authentic dories. You can spend a couple of hours exploring the harbour in a dory. Right across the road, check out Dildo Cove Coffee & Krafts. They have great coffee and baked goods. It’s also where you can pick up your Dildo t-shirt.
