If you are staying at the Island Cove RV Park, the Lookout Trail is easy to find. Just walk from your trailer to the end of the campground and follow a short trail to the wooden arbour. If you are staying someplace else in La Scie the campground is easy to find. Just drive to the end of Water Street on the north side of the harbour.
There is a parking area at the end of the street right in front of the campground. Stop by the campground office. They sell a pass for the park which helps with the upkeep of all the trails. It’s a short walk through the park to the beach and the Lookout Trail.
If you are unable to hike the trail, you can also drive up to the lookout. When you get to the campground, you’ll see a narrow gravel road that runs off to your right. Follow that road to the end at the top of a hill. It’s a little rough, when you get to the lookout, there is a large parking area where you can also turn around to come back.
The first section of the trail starts at the campground and goes up to a communications tower. You have some great views of the campground, town and the harbour.
The second section of the trail takes you to two lookouts that are also accessible by car. These two lookouts are above the beach. This is where we got great views of the eagle that we had spotted at the beach. Take binoculars with you and you can also get a look at the Horse Islands. The island to the right had a community that was resettled.
From near the parking area, you can take some stairs up to the highest lookout. Here you’ll find some great views of the rugged coastline.
