Fort Point | Trinity Bight
You can see the lighthouse on Fort Point, across the harbour from Trinity. Fort Point is also known as Admiral’s Point.
From Trinity, you can drive to Fort Point. Head out of town back to the road that brought you into Trinity from Route 230. Turn left and head towards New Bonaventure. When you get to the community of Dunfield, turn left and drive through town. You follow a narrow gravel road out to the point. Try to look ahead on the road around the bay, because if somebody is coming the other way, you need to find a place where you can pass by each other.
When you reach the point, you’ll find a gift store and ticket building. There is a small admission to take the self-guided walking tour around the point.
A fort was built on this point in the 1740’s to protect Trinity from the French. The fort was subsequently captured by the French and destroyed. It was later rebuilt and in 1812 was now protection from American invaders. The fort was eventually abandoned and since 1871, Fort Point has been home to a lighthouse.
The trail around the lighthouse at Fort Point has some amazing views of Trinity and Trinity East. The famous Skerwink Trail is on the other side of the harbour entrance.
