Some Favorite Places:

Fogo

Fogo is one of the three larger towns on Fogo Island. Joe Batt’s Arm and Tilting are both further from the ferry terminal in Stag Harbour.

To get to Fogo from the Trans Canada, take either Route 340 through Lewisporte or Route 330 from Gander. Just follow the signs for the Fogo Island Ferry. The ferry terminal is in a place called Farewell, which is at the north end of Route 335. For the ferry schedule, click here.

In the summer they run two ferries. One goes directly to Fogo Island, the crossing time is 45 minutes. The second ferry also stops at Change Islands and takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach Fogo Island. We recommend you get to the ferry terminal at least an hour before departure. The boats are usually pretty full in the summer. If you are driving an RV, it’s not a problem, the boats will handle tractor trailers.

When you arrive on Fogo Island, you are on Route 333. Just follow the signs to Fogo. The roads are not great, so plan on taking your time getting there.

We’ve visited Fogo twice. On our first trip in 2012 with stayed at Peg’s Place, which we highly recommend. Our second visit to Fogo was 2019 and we stayed at Brimstone Head RV Park, also recommended.

Fogo is an incredibly beautiful town, with three heritage churches and a large operating fish plant. A hike up Brimstone Head gives you some amazing views of town and the surrounding islands.

Trails

There are three great trails in Fogo. Brimstone Head, Fogo Head and Lion’s Den Trail. We would include all of them on our list of Newfoundland’s best trails. All three trails give you spectacular vantage points. Lion’s Den Trail is longer, but not difficult.

Kitchen Party

In 2019, the Lions Club was running a weekly kitchen party. Don’t miss this if you are in town that night. Local talent entertains you with Newfoundland music. If you are from ‘Away’ you can get Screeched in as an honourary Newfoundlander. It’s a lot of fun!

Rainy Days

For rainy day activities, there is no shortage of things to do. Fogo has 4 museums, several shops and a few restaurants. Visit the Town of Fogo website for more information.

Services

In town their is a gas station, grocery store, bank and post office. In nearby Fogo Centre, you’ll find a pharmacy. Take a short drive down to Shoal Bay and there is another large grocery store.
