Gambo is the birthplace of Joey Smallwood. Love him or hate him, he brought Newfoundland into confederation. Unless you have been to Newfoundland you cannot imagine how lucky Canada is to have this province.

Gambo is on Hwy 320 just north of the TransCanada.  Hwy 320 is about 50 km east of Gander. Gambo is on the shores of Freshwater Bay.

The first steam driven sawmill was built in Gambo by a close relative of Joey Smallwood’s.

The Smallwood Interpretation Centre is a great place to visit. You will easily spend 1-2 hours here. While the primary focus is on Joey, there is a lot of historical information regarding the surrounding area.
