Southeast Brook Falls is an easy fun trail. It’s the first trail you come to driving into the north side of the park. Take Route 430 (The Viking Trail) from Deer Lake. Once you pass Wiltondale and the turn-off to Woody Point, you are entering the north side of the park.
The parking area for the trail is about half way down one of the biggest hills on the road. It has signs at the top for trucks to use a low gear. There are also brake testing pull-offs at the top. Take your time going down this hill, even if you are in a car.
The trail is 700 metres return (less than half a mile). It’s a fairly easy trail with some stairs and a few wet spots. You’ll be treated to two views of the falls. The first viewing area is part way down the falls and the second viewing area is right at the top of the falls. The total height of this waterfall is 40 metres. The amount of water going over the falls is greatest during spring run-off.
Trail Tip
Every trail in Gros Morne has an information sign with a map at the start of the trail. We take a photo of the map with our phone. We’ve referred to our map photo many times when we get further down the trail.
