We watched an episode of Land & Sea called ‘The Cat’s Meow’ which was all about Darlene Jensen Royle from Belleoram. If you have not seen the show, click on the link. While watching the show, we knew we had to add Belleoram to places we needed to visit.
We drove into town and parked the truck, so we could take some pictures. We struck up a conversation with a lady walking down the street. We told her that we had seen the show about a lady from Belleoram and she told us that she was that lady 🙂 .
Darlene had been gathering feral kittens in town and taming them, so they had a chance of being placed in a home. The show tells the whole story about Darlene’s campaign to raise money to make it possible to have the town’s feral cats neutered. Darlene worked with an organization from Lethbridge, NL (Bonavista Peninsula) called Feral Felines.
As your drive into Belleoram on Route 363, there is a gravel parking area on your right above the town. It’s an incredibly beautiful spot with views of the harbour and the town.
St. Lawrence Anglican Church was built in 1891. Locally it is referred to as The Cathedral of The South Coast. The church is normally open and you can go in and see the beautiful interior.
