Furby’s Cove is on the Connaigre Peninsula on Hermitage Bay, just off Route 364. To get to Furby’s Cove, take the gravel road 1 km from Route 364, Ignore the sign that says ‘use the road at your own risk’.
Furby’s Cove is on of many resettled communities on Newfoundland’s south coast. Several cottages and summer homes have been built there. According to one resident we talked with, there are now more people living in Furby’s Cove than there was before resettlement.
The summer home owners have a community group that maintains the road into the community. The ferry to Gaultois across Hermitage Bay runs out of nearby Hermitage. Gaultois is probably closer to Furby’s Cove.
Furby’s Cove has a bench at the top of the hill coming into town that welcomes you. It’s the most unique welcome sign we’ve seen in Newfoundland.
