Hermitage

Hermitage is on the western side of the Connaigre Peninsula on Hermitage Bay. The nearby town of Sandyville is part of the almagamated community of Hermitage-Sandyville.

Hermitage is on Route 364, which runs off the Bay d’Espoir Highway (Route 360). Hermitage has a busy little harbour with fishing boats and a ferry terminal. There is a freight and passenger ferry (no cars) that takes you to nearby Gaultois and McCallum.

There are aquaculture (salmon farms) nearby as well. There are large aquaculture operations throughout the Coast of Bays area. We saw them in Bay d’Espoir, Hermitage Bay and Harbour Breton Northeast Arm.

There are several resettled communities in this south coast areas and Hermitage is one of the communities that people were relocated to.
