To reach Point Leamington, take Hwy 350 north from the Trans Canada, east of Bishop’s Falls.
Point Leamington was first settled in the late 1800s by loggers. Several sawmills were operational for a period. In the last few decades logging has all but disappeared.
As you enter the community The J.J. Thompson Park is a nice spot for a picnic. Stairs take you down to view the Mill River and rapids.
As you cross over the river there is another small park on your right. This features the wooden train, picnic tables, bandstand and another set of stairs taking you down to the river rapids.
On the left side of the Hwy is The Point Leamington Heritage Interpretive Centre. Displays and artifacts give you the history of the area. Gifts and snacks are also available. This parking lot provides access to Roswell’s Hill, a trail overlooking the town.
Following the road around the bay we spotted the beached boat. It has been there around 50 years and is embedded in the landscape!
