Hillgrade

Hillgrade is on New World Island, just off Route 340. Hillgrade is very close to the causeway to South Twillingate Island.

Hillgrade is home to Doyle W. Sansome & Sons Ltd. They sell fresh lobster and have a seafood restaurant. You’ll see signs for Sansmone Dockside Dining along Route 340, as you drive towards Twillingate.

The best time to get fresh lobster in Newfoundland is in June, that’s when lobster season is running. Sansome’s extends the availability of fresh lobster by keeping their live catch in salt water tanks. They also keep lobster in large bins that you’ll see floating next to the dock.

If you are not up for buying a live lobster or cooking it yourself, you can order lobster at the restaurant. Fresh lobster in Newfoundland in June is a little different than your ‘Red Lobster’ experience. Normally in Newfoundland, they do not serve lobster with melted butter. Fresh lobster has a wonderful sweet taste, we’d recommend you give it a try without the butter 🙂 .

Sansome’s Dockside Dining is a treat. You can sit indoors or out on the dock. If you are there on a nice afternoon, it’s a lot of fun to have your lunch on the dock.
