Cook’s Harbour is on Route 435 at the end of the paved portion of the road. The first part of the drive follows Pistolet Bay and you’ll see several roadside gardens. The 2nd part of the drive closer to Cook’s Harbour goes through very barren landscape. We saw both moose and caribou along the highway. The road is in good condition.
Cook’s Harbour sits on the very northern tip of Newfoundland on the Strait of Bell Isle. If you visit in June, you’ll probably see icebergs.
Cook’s Harbour is about a 50 minute drive from St. Anthony, the area’s main service centre. Cook’s Harbour has a small grocery store.
There’s an old church in town that’s now being used as a storage shed. It’s still quite a pretty building with some of the original windows. Obviously well built to be still standing and in use.
