Flatrock is north of St. John’s about 20 km. There are 2 main routes you can follow. NL 20 is more direct and inland. If you take NL 30, it is more coastal.
Just past Middle Cove Beach turn right on to Marine Dr and take it to NL 20. Follow the signs for Torbay and continue thru to Flatrock.
Flatrock Cove is really something to see. On the south side the coast consists of large sloping slabs of rock that come out of the water on a gentle angle.
On the north side of the cove red cliffs rise out of the water , increasing in height until you get to the end, Red Head Cliff.
In 1984 Pope John Paul 2 conducted “The Blessing of the Fleet” September 12. A monument stands at the site on the north side of the community.
Across the road is The Lady of Lourdes Grotto, considered the largest religious grotto in Canada east of Montreal.
