Petty Harbour is about 13 km south of St. John’s. Follow the signs for Cape Spear. You will be on Blackhead Rd. Turn right onto Maddox Cove Road, and follow your nose.
Just before you drive down the hill you will come to Harbour Lookout Point. Stop here, and check the views. From here you can see the entire village from up high.
Parking is at a premium in this community. If you are a walker, I suggest you grab a spot when you see it and hike around.
Petty Harbour is still an active fishing community dating back to the 1600’s. It nestles between large green hills. Heritage homes are scattered throughout the hills in the town which can be quite winding and steep.
It has become a tourist destination, providing spectacular photo opps, restaurants, cafes, a museum, aquarium, shops and accommodations. You will want to book a room well in advance.
We enjoyed a lovely break at the waterShed Coffee Shop. It is situated right on the water with a relaxed comfy atmosphere and homemade treats!
