Little Harbour

Little Harbour is a community on South Twillingate Island. You’ll see the signs as you drive towards Twillingate on Route 340. One road takes you into the community, loops around and hooks up with the highway again.

Little Harbour is gorgeous, you’ll find out why tour buses regularly loop through here. There are several interesting heritage buildings on a small harbour on the east side of the island.

While in Little Harbour, we were lucky enough to meet up with Otto Young. He’s well known in the Twillingate area. Otto has even been featured on Land and Sea, a CBC Newfoundland TV program. Otto had been operating a bed and breakfast. He’s a musician, painter and model ship builder. Otto invited us into his showroom, which is attached to his house. His paintings of the area are beautiful, every detail on his model ships are hand-made.

Up the hill behind Otto’s house there is a church being restored. While walking back from the church we noticed a concrete root cellar in somebody’s back yard. We were told it was built in the 1930’s. It’s no longer in use, but looks like it will still be here in another 90 years.
