Aquaforte is on Hwy 10, south of Ferryland. It is a very small hamlet on the north shore of Aquaforte Harbour.
At this point the harbour is quite narrow and protected. The geography contributed to Aquaforte’s status as a major cod fishing port on the east coast.
In 1902 a whaling station was established in Aquaforte by a Norwegian. By 1904 the modern Newfoundland and Labrador whaling industry reached its peak. The whale processing plant was closed in 1908 due to declining whale populations.
There is a Bed and Breakfast, Kaleywinds, that was built by in 1903, by the family that owned the whaling factory.
