Brigus South is located on the east side of the Avalon Peninsula. Following HWY 10 south, you will go about 6 km past The La Manche Provincial Park. Take Brigus Road left for almost 2 km. This is a very small fishing community. It is a very pretty spot on the water with green forests and hills around it. It is amazing how quiet it is!
The first time the location was put on a map was 1636. Both French and Portuguese sailors were familiar with the area.
Do not confuse Brigus South with Brigus to the north on Conception Bay. In the 1960s the NL Government renamed Brigus South Hillsdale, to prevent confusion. The locals were having none of that and the name Brigus South was resumed a few years later.
There is a blacksmith that works out of Brigus South. His name is Ian Gilles. Click on his name to get to his facebook page.
