Fermeuse is on Hwy 10, on the southeastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula. It is a larger community with a population of over 300 people.

The history of Fermeuse dates back to the 1500’s. It was a Portuguese summer fishing station. By the late 1600’s Fermeuse was settled year round.

Rock with 17th and 18th Century Graffiti Municipal Heritage Site is located in Kingman’s Cove nearby. It is a large boulder situated along an old trail. It is inscribed with names, initials and dates, The earliest dates to 1684.

A look at the boats in the harbour indicate the fishing industry still plays a role in the local economy.
