Some Favorite Places:

Shoal Bay

Shoal Bay is one of the eleven communities on Fogo Island. Shoal Bay is on the north side of the island, on Route 334.

From the ferry terminal in Stag Harbour, follow Route 333 through Little Seldom and Seldom to Fogo Island Central. Turn right on Route 334 towards Joe Batt’s Arm. The first community you come to is Shoal Bay.

As you enter town, watch for Herring Cove Road. Turn left (north) and follow the road almost to the end to Herring Cove Art. The shop is one of the prettiest shops in Newfoundland. They have a wide variety of items made by Winston and Linda Osmond. There is something nice here for every budget.

Winston’s paintings are amazing, he sells prints of his work. Winston also builds bird houses and wooden Christmas Tree decorations. Linda works with new and recycled fabrics to make quilts and a variety of hand-made items. They also bottle jams, pickles and preserves. Almost everything in the store is made by Winston and Linda.

From Herring Cove Art, you can see the Tower Studio, which you can hike to from Route 334. You can also see Herring Cove, which is an inlet of Shoal Bay.

Shoal Bay is also where you will find the Foodland, which is the largest grocery store on Fogo Island.
