The town of Twillingate straddles South Twillingate Island and North Twillingate Island. The two islands are joined by a small causeway. To get to Twillingate you cross several islands linked together by causeways and Route 340. The largest island you cross to get to Twillingate is New World Island.
There are several smaller communities on the two islands along with Twillingate. Communities are arranged from south to north.
Purcell’s Harbour is the first town on your right when you cross the causeway onto South Twillingate Island.
Don’t drive by the turn-off to Little Harbour. You’ll find out why tour buses take people down to see this beautiful community.
Durrell is part of the Town of Twillingate. When you come into town there is a ‘T’ intersection. Turn right to go to Durrell, turn left to go into Twillingate.
Twillingate bills itself as the iceberg capital of the world. There are lots of things to do in town including theatre, restaurants, shopping and museums.
Back Harbour is on the west side of town. If you stick to the main drag, you’ll miss this pretty part of Twillingate.
Continue north on Route 340 from Twillingate to the Long Point Lighthouse and you’ll drive through Crow Head.
Trails to Nanny’s Hole, Sleepy Cove and Lower Head, all originate at the parking area for the lighthouse and lookout.
